Westfjords Way 5 Day

Long days and big rewards on this 5 day tour

Ride and experience the best of the Westfjords with this 5 day tour

Discover Iceland’s most remote and breathtaking region on a 5-day journey along the legendary Westfjords Way — where dramatic cliffs, endless fjords, and timeless solitude meet the open road.

This round-trip adventure takes you deep into the heart of the Westfjords, tracing quiet coastal routes and mountain passes that reveal the region’s raw power and poetic beauty. Each day unfolds new horizons — from mirror-like fjords framed by towering basalt peaks to windswept tundra, hidden waterfalls, and fishing villages where time seems to slow.

Whether you’re pedaling through the stillness of Ísafjarðardjúp, soaking in a seaside hot spring, or watching Arctic foxes roam beneath the midnight sun, every moment connects you more deeply to Iceland’s untamed spirit.

The Westfjords Way 5 Day invites you to slow down, breathe in the silence, and experience Iceland at its most authentic, remote, and unforgettable.

Itinerary

Day 0: Welcome to the Westfjords
Arrive to Ísafjörður on the morning or afternoon flight. We’ll pick you up from the airport and head to the Fjord Hub, our headquarters and fully outfitted bike shop. Once we’re happy with our bikes, let’s grab a bite to eat in town before heading out on the abandoned road to Bolungarvík. We’ll climb up to Bolafjall, where on a clear day they say you can see Greenland!
Distance: 50km
Elevation: 1,110m
Stay: Hótel Ísafjorður Torg
Day 1: Wind through the Fjords
Enjoy the breakfast buffet before we start out on the Westfjords Way! This day is mostly paved and has an amazing waffle café at the halfway point. Keep your ears and eyes open for whales as we wind in and out of each fjord. Take one last turn before the road turns to gravel and we finish at Heydalur. Our reward is their amazing dinner and natural hot springs.
Distance: 136km
Elevation: 750m
Stay: Heydalur Country Hotel
Day 2: Traverse to the southern Westfjords
The breakfast buffet will propel us forward for day 2. A gravel start to complete the fjord before we get back onto pavement. We reach our first mountain pass where the climb up is on pavement but the descent is all gravel and you will not forget this one as the southern Westfjords reveal themself. Connect once more with the main road before one more punchy gravel climb and arrival at Djúpidalur. We will cook dinner for you and stay in the farm cottages. Soak in the hot pot afterwards!
Distance: 123km
Elevation: 1,340m
Stay: Djúpidalur Farm
Day 3: Carry on the way
We’ll make our own breakfast together at Djúpidalur and then start our ride. This day is straight-forward and starts out with one more punchy gravel climb. Followed by pavement for the rest of the day, we’ll have great views of Breiðafjörður and Snæfellsnes to our left. Finish at Hotel Flókalundur, a modern hotel with restaurant and bar. There is a natural hot spring just a short walk away from the hotel.
Distance: 91km
Elevation: 940m
Stay: Hotel Flókalundur
Day 4: You’ve never ridden anything like this
Breakfast buffet and coffee to-go , we’re going to need it. Climb up and over Dynjandisheiði, one of the best climbs of the Westfjords. As you descend, Dynjandi waterfall roars for a must stop picture point. Continue on and  we’ll have fuel up at Hrafnseyri Café before continuing on the famous Svalvogar road. It’s known for it’s chunky adventure gravel sections that are only passable at low-tide. We’ll be with you the whole way. Reward yourself at Simbahöllin café followed by dinner at KEX Þingeyri.
Distance: 101km
Elevation: 1,490m

Day 5: Let’s finish this
Breakfast buffet at KEX Þingeyri before we finish this thing. Don’t let the distance fool you. This route features one of the hardest climbs of the entire trip. Climb to the highest point of the route before descending back to where we started, Ísafjörður. We’ll get cleaned up before celebrating our journey at the world famous all-you-can-eat fish restaurant, Tjöruhúsið.
