Arna WFWC BIPOC Scholarship

The Westfjords Way Challenge is the first event of its kind – an ultra endurance race that values a connection with people and the places we ride. Our vision is to host a welcoming event for everyone pushing their limits on bikes around the world, which means working to remove barriers for those who are often excluded by the cycling and outdoor recreation communities. With this in mind, the Arna WFWC will sponsor two riders that identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color) with a travel support and race entry scholarship.

2024 applications open on September 20.

The two scholarships will include free race entry, campground fees, a race bus ticket (from Reykjavik to Ísafjörður) and travel support up to €1,000 to support and encourage BIPOC riders to compete in the Westfjords Way Challenge. The scholarship can be used for anything needed for the event (flights, outfitting your bike, etc). Hotels will be reserved so recipients have the option of choosing to camp or stay in a hotel – camping is covered, but hotels will be at cost to the riders. Race organizers are happy to help coordinate travel and work with you on making sure you have everything you need for a successful race. This year, the scholarship recipients will be selected with a lottery process. On October 10, two recipients (drawn at random) will be contacted and asked whether they would like to accept the scholarship. All applicants will be updated on their application status no later than October 10.

Recipients will be asked to accept or decline the scholarship by October 18. If for any reason a spot becomes available, another name will be drawn and contacted as early as possible.
